The son of an engineer, Jérôme Mesnager entered the École Boulle in 1974, where he trained as a cabinetmaker and later taught. In 1982, he was one of the founders of the Zig-Zag movement, a group of a dozen young artists "zig-zagging through the urban jungle", drawing graffiti in the streets or, for the duration of an artistic performance, in disused factories. In January 1983, Jérôme Mesnager invented the White Man, "a symbol of light, strength and peace". This white silhouette has been reproduced the world over, from the walls of Paris to the Great Wall of China. A true world tour: from the giants of Ménilmontant to Moscow's Red Square, the articulated figures are everywhere! In 2023, the White Man turns 40, and several books have already been dedicated to him. To celebrate this anniversary, Jérôme Mesnager's solo exhibition is a must-see.
